Caring For Your 925 Silver Jewellery
925 Sterling Silver jewellery items are made using 92.5% of pure silver, combined with 7.5% of other metals (copper, nickel or zinc) to create a more durable and malleable metal.
Silver jewellery items are extremely hard-wearing, versatile, and will prove to last you a lifetime if you know how to care for these trinkets. Here are some upkeep tips and answers to your queries on how to keep your jewellery looking great!
Clean and Polish with a Silver Polishing Cloth
As with other metals that might rust when left in the open on your dresser, 925 Sterling Silver items do not tend to rust, but might gradually oxidize and take on a yellow or black tint over time. When that happens, simply wipe and lightly polish your jewellery with a silver polishing cloth to restore its shine. With a good polishing cloth, your precious jewellery will be easily made to look like new!
Psst, do look out for fake polishing cloths in the market. Good polishing cloths normally come in a slightly soft and fibrous format. To keep your cloth effective, DO NOT wash it. It is also perfectly normal to see black stains on your cloth after use. That also shows that the grime and oxidized tint has been removed from your jewellery!

Store Your Silver Jewellery In an Airtight Bag
To prevent and reduce the risk of your jewellery tarnishing, you can seal up your trinkets in an airtight container or in individual airtight Ziploc bags.
Ziplocs help to slow the development of oxidization, and it will be a good practice to store it this way so they stay as beautiful as ever!

Deep Clean Your 925 Silver Jewellery
Everything seems to look better after a deep cleanse, and that includes your 925 silver jewellery! To start, you will need a small pot, some aluminium foil, some water, 3-4 tablespoons of salt or baking soda, a pair of tweezer or chopsticks, a piece of soft cloth and a hairdryer.
Line the pot with some aluminium foil (shiny side up), and fill it with enough water to cover the jewellery items you want to clean. Bring the water up to a boil, and add the salt or baking soda till everything is dissolved. Then, gently place your jewellery into the mix and let it bubble away to remove all the impurities.
After a few minutes, remove your items with a pair of tweezer or chopsticks from the hot water and run them under cold water to wash off any residue before drying with a soft cloth and blowing dry with a hairdryer (it is important to make sure that the smaller nooks and crannies in your trinkets are dry as well).
You will find that your silver jewellery are now really shiny again after this process!
To further shine them, polish with your silver polishing cloth after.
(The above deep clean method is not recommended for plated jewellery or pieces with embedded stones or crystals.)
Your Doubts Dispelled - “Can I? Should I?”
1. Can I shower with my 925 Silver Jewellery items?
Yes, it is perfectly ok to shower with your jewellery on, but do remember to dry it after. There might be a slight chance of oxidization to occur, so do shine it with your silver polishing cloth after drying it with a soft cloth.
2. Should I wear 925 Silver Jewellery to bed?
It is safe to wear them the whole day, but a good rule to follow is to ensure that your jewellery should be the “last to put on, first to remove”. Try to put on your jewellery only after applying makeup and perfume, and remove it first before you go to bed. This will prevent your jewellery from tarnishing due to contact from possible chemicals.
3. How often should I clean my jewellery?
To maintain the beauty of your trinkets, you can shine them with a good polishing cloth after every wear before putting it back into a Ziploc. Choose to also deep clean your jewellery every 2-3 months if you wear them on a regular basis.
